Chaotian Temple

The Chaotian Temple was not the first temple to the goddess Mazu that Chinese settlers established in Taiwan, but it rose to prominence as the center of the Mazu cult on the island and the highest-ranked institution in the incense-division networks on Taiwan. Although places like the Qing'an Temple in Jilong vied with it for status during the Japanese colonial era, its contemporary prominence is unsurpassed.
