Children were brought in from the collective waiting room and their arms were examined. Physicians noted the shape of their reactions in the Abundant Aid Record and marked the child's entry with a "success" stamp if scabs had formed by the 16th day after vaccination. If physicians concluded from the symptoms that a vaccination had failed, they handed the caregiver a ticket with a follow-up appointment to revaccinate the child.
